Lavandula angustifolia
Lavender comes from the dry hills of the Mediterranean. It loves sun and lean, dry soil, and being kind to it with extra water is the quickest way to kill it.

In Verda these six stages pass in real time. It keeps growing while you are away.

For growing it in a pot, on a balcony or a windowsill.
Full sun, at least 6 hours a day.
Sandy or gritty, very free-draining soil. It likes lime. Rich soil and heavy feeding weaken the scent.
Sparingly. Water only when the soil has dried out, and never leave it standing in a saucer.
After flowering, cut back a third of the green growth. Do not cut into old wood; it rarely resprouts.
Cut with long stems when half the flowers on the spike are open, then hang in bunches upside down in the shade.
In Verda lavender is one of the most fragrant common flowers, and it is useful at the workbench once dried.
