Asparagus officinalis
Asparagus asks for patience. The crowns settle in for two years and the real harvest starts in the third spring. After that the same crowns keep sending up spears for close to a decade.

In Verda these six stages pass in real time. It keeps growing while you are away.

For growing it in a pot, on a balcony or a windowsill.
Full sun, at least 6 hours a day.
A deep, wide pot with free-draining soil rich in compost. Soggy soil rots the crowns.
Water regularly in the first year. After that, water when the top of the soil is dry.
Cut spears at 15 to 20 cm, just above the soil. Stop in early summer and let the rest grow into ferny foliage that feeds the crowns.
In Verda asparagus is a rare, tasty vegetable that suits notes asking for a good dish.
